How to Have the Best Cuban Vacation May 4, 2017 by Ashleigh (Awesome Escape Blogger)
Palm-fringed beaches and powder-fine white sands make Cuba a prized vacation spot in the Caribbean. In anticipation of growing travel opportunities for the American tourists in Cuba, check out some of our top tips to enjoy your Cuban vacation. With beautiful archipelagos and keys, luxurious resort communities, diverse wildlife on land and sea, and a rich history, there's a little bit of something for everyone in Cuba. Here are a few tips to help you make the most out of your Cuban getaway.
Research Your Hotel
Because you have no way of knowing if your hotel is as heavenly as the website makes it appear, try doing a little digging before booking your hotel reservations. Some hotels will also post what amenities they offer and what they don't, which is a good place to start. Then look at independent review sites and try and find honest opinions of what the hotels are like and which ones are best. Some websites even allow users to post photos of where they're staying.
Everyone knows that all-inclusive vacation package can give you more bang for your buck, and this is especially true in a place like Cuba. All-inclusive resorts in communities like Varadero and the southern keys will offer packages that include all of your meals and drinks as well as access to a huge list of activities to keep you entertained during your stay. Be sure to, again, research the package to ensure that you are getting everything you feel you should for the price of your package. Some resorts are for adults only or have fewer activities. You could also end up booking with an all-inclusive resort that shuttles you to another for nearly every activity, taking time out of your trip. No one wants to spend your tropical vacation on an air-conditioned bus!
You Get What You Pay For
There's no doubt that one can get a good deal on accommodations in places like Havana, where there are smaller properties and hotels in the historic district. But, you should consider what you get for the price. Sure, you could save up to $100 US on your hotel, but some of the cheapest hotels can't even offer you hot water or in-room television. While they may be closer to famous attractions, these hotels don't have even half of the amenities or facilities found on a resort.
Don't limit yourself to just one region of this beautiful island! Most hotels and all-inclusive resorts will give their guests the option of booking tours to other parts of the country. Most tours and excursions last between four hours to an entire day. Some of the longer journeys take people to population centers for full two-day trips for sightseeing in areas like Havana, rural Matanzas, or the southern keys. Again, your hotel or resort will be able to provide you with a mist of available tours and info on where they depart from and how long they last. If you're staying at an independent hotel, be sure to investigate local tour operators to see more than local attractions.
Cuba is full of amazing architecture, fascinating history, sumptuous cuisine, and classic cars. Let's not forget those infamous turquoise waters lined with white sand beaches. There's literally something for everyone in Cuba, and you'll be able to enjoy it more by following these tips.
