Foods Only Found in New York City Mar 7, 2016 by Sarah (Awesome Escape Blogger)

New York City is every foodie’s dream. There are countless restaurants with endless food choices and there’s no way you could ever leave the city hungry. Did you know some dishes can ONLY be found in New York? You’ll want to make sure you get a chance to try some of these treats next time you visit the Big Apple.

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Serendipity 3, located at 225 E 60th St. is the home of the famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. Serendipity 3 was New York’s first coffee house boutique and started as a shop 4 tables big. They now have a shop that’s always busy serving people their Frozen Hot Chocolate and they even have products that they sell online so you can take a little piece of them home with you.

Japanese-Jewish Cuisine

Shalom Japan is a restaurant that is Japanese and Jewish fusion food. The owners brought together their own cultures and passion for food to create this incredible and unique culinary delight. Located at 310 South Fourth St, this restaurant has extensive glowing reviews from publications such as the New York Times and The New Yorker.

Pastrami Egg Roll

Katz’s Deli is something every New Yorker recommends trying if you’ve never been before. It’s known for its pastrami sandwiches but a new restaurant called RedFarm has taken Katz’s pastrami sandwiches to another level – and turned them into an egg roll. It’s located in the West Village at 529 Hudson Street.

$1 Pizza

It could be argued that the New York $1 Pizza is the best thing to happen since sliced bread. The best spots to secure cheap slices are near NYU (specifically near MacDougal Street), although there are many locations all across the city. The trend of $1 slices first appeared up in the late 2000s and has become a lot more mainstream since then - and we approve wholeheartedly!
