Fifth Avenue, New York City
Fifth Avenue is considered one of the most expensive and best-shopping streets in the entire world! It’s home to Saks, Tiffany’s and countless other retailers. The best time to walk along Fifth Avenue, however, is right before Christmas. If you don’t mind crowds, you can spend days walking up and down this street enchanted by the beautiful window displays that everyone has put up in time for the Holidays. The street starts at Washington Square and runs north to 143rd Street in Harlem. In 1893, it saw a decline of residents on the street and it became more commercial when the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was built. Fifth Avenue through Midtown, specifically between 49th and 60th Street is home to some of the most luxurious and expensive shopping retailers in the world. The area was once ranked as the having the most expensive retail spaces on a cost per square foot basis and in 2008 Forbes named Fifth Avenue the most expensive street in the world. Some of the world's most sought after real estate properties are the penthouses on top of the commercial buildings on Fifth Avenue.
