Maximilianstraße is one of the cities four most royal avenues. It was planned and begun being built in 1850 by King Maximillian II of Bavaria, which is how the street got its name. Today, it has the merit of the highest retail rents in Germany. The architecture on this street is part of what makes it so prestigious and neo-gothic buildings frame most of the street. The western portion of Maximilianstraße is known for its galleries, designer shops, luxury boutiques jewelry stores and one of Munich’s foremost five-star hotels, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. Some of the luxury shops on the street include Dolce & Gabanna, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, Escada, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Gianfranco Ferré and Bulgari.
