When people visit Miami, they typically spend a lot of time in Miami Beach, but the truth is that there's so much more to see than just the one stretch of beach. If you're traveling with little ones, it can be difficult to find things to do just about anywhere. We've found five of the most fantastic things to do with your kids while you're visiting the sunny south of Florida. Check them out below.
Visit the Miami Children's Museum
Kids love seeing things from the past and exploring different things they've never seen before. That's why museums are such a great place to take children. It's even better when you can find a museum full of things that kids care about as opposed to the stuffy items in adult-oriented museums. That's why the Miami Children's Museum is such a terrific pick. It's full of things kids are curious about from scientific facts to info about animals and distant lands and they always have special exhibits come in from other museums.
Go to the Zoo
If you're traveling with children and there happens to be a zoo in the area, you really can't pass the opportunity up to tour the grounds of one. Kids love seeing animals of all kinds; especially the ones that you don't see at petting zoos in the Midwest. Zoo Miami is the place to see all of those special animals the kids only get to see in books or on TV. The best part is that they will remember the trip for the rest of their lives.
Take the Kids Horseback riding
Maybe it's a little off-the-beaten-path, but there has to be something from left field on every vacation, right? Bring your family out to some horse stables that offer up horseback riding through trails and around the rural outskirts of Miami. A place like Star Stables Miami is excellent for this because their horses are used to traveling with new riders and you can downgrade to a pony if you feel more comfortable with that.
Monkey See, Monkey Do
Even though you may have had your fill of wildlife at the zoo, there's nothing else out there like Monkey Jungle. The jungle-like vegetation in Miami provides the perfect habitat for a lot of primates including gorillas. Kids will love how this focused experience includes fun games and educational shows where children can learn more about some of the different types of monkeys out there and tour the grounds.
Attend the Seaquarium
Families never tire of new experiences while on vacation, and if you're looking for something a little more marine than the zoos and different venues out there, Miami Seaquarium is a safe bet. They have tons of exhibits featuring tropical fish, sharks, sea lions and dolphins. In addition to the exhibits are shows where kids and adults alike can marvel at the amazing acrobatics of dolphins, sea lions and orcas. You'll never forget what you see here.
