5 Family-Friendly Beaches on the East Coast May 17, 2017 by Nicole (Awesome Escape Blogger)

Planning your summer vacation? Why not treat yourself and the family to an exciting, yet relaxing, vacation on the beach this year? Beach vacations can be an affordable getaway for the whole family. Rent a cabin or a lovely hotel room and enjoy one of the family-friendly options along the East Coast. Check out our five favorite beaches on the East Coast that are ideal for all members of your family.

Edisto Island, North Carolina

Located in Edisto Beach State Park, this is a budget-friendly option with a down-home flair. This downtown beachfront features shabby chic beach homes, rustic (furnished) cabins, restaurants, and more. Enjoy traditional beach front activities or partake in featured nights that include karaoke and more. An added bonus is the surrounding State Park that is comprised of untouched wilderness and tidal rivers. You can take a few vacations for the price of one: on the beach, camping, or party at night.

Cape May, New Jersey

Cape May is located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey and may very well be the oldest beachfront resort in the country. This beach is also a National Historic Landmark with a variety of beaches and rentals to choose from. In our opinion, the best option at Cape May is Sunset Beach just a brief walk from the lighthouse. You can bike to Sunset Boulevard for the flag ceremony at sunset or spend days hunting for rounded, pure quartz that washes ashore.

Fire Island, New York

Fire Island is a pristine beach between the Great South Bay to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Animals like free-roaming deer and geese find sanctuary in the nearby marshland. It does need to be noted that vehicles are NOT permitted on the island; but water taxis, a ferry and private boats provide access for a truly relaxing beach holiday suffused with nature, peace, and quiet.

Bass Hole, Massachusetts

Bass Hole is one of the most picturesque areas in Yarmouth Port. The Bass Hole Boardwalk stretches from over a marshy creek through to the Callery-Darling nature trails. You can relax and take in the views on public benches or engage in a plethora of traditional beach activities. Nearby, you will find the Edward Gorey Museum that’s great for children who can explore the famous author and illustrator’s fascinating drawings.

York, Maine

Within the town of York, there are a variety of beaches to choose from. This is a beachfront destination that is thoroughly family friendly while not being stuffy. You and your family can enjoy arcades, bowling, mini golf, and more. This is in addition to traditional beachfront fanfare and the ability to drive to Ogunquit and walk along the Marginal Way, a beautiful path along the stunning, rocky coast.

Whether your family is adventurous, outdoors, or just ready to flop down on a beach towel, there’s a great beach that can fit your needs.
